The Fairview Branch Library, at 2101 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica, is currently accepting volunteers for its Summer Reading Tutorial. Applications for volunteers are being accepted through Thursday, June 1st.

Now in its 12th year, the literacy program is being offered from Monday, July 3rd, to Saturday, August 5th.

Volunteers range in age from middle school students to senior citizens, and should be able to speak English fluently.

Students in grades two through five who are reading below grade level are assigned a volunteer tutor, and they meet at Fairview for one hour a week.

Most students do not have English as their first language.

Volunteers may select a day and time best suited to their schedule (Monday through Thursday between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saturday between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.)

All volunteers ages 18 and older are required to be fingerprinted as part of a background check for individuals working with children.
