A free summer beach shuttle service for residents and visitors to Marina del Rey and Venice Beach will return Memorial Day weekend.
The shuttle will travel from Playa Vista every 30 minutes, carrying riders to local points of interest, including Fisherman’s Village, the Waterside Shopping Center, Marina “Mothers” Beach and the Venice Beach Pier.
Beginning Friday, May 25, the shuttle service will operate on Fridays, weekends, and holidays through September on the following days and times:
Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.;
Sundays and holidays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
During the Thursday evening classical concerts at Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey (July 12 and 26; Aug. 9 and 23), the shuttle will operate from 5 to 10 p.m., providing direct roundtrip service to Burton Chace Park.
The beach shuttle will also provide service via a special route to the Abbot Kinney Festival in Venice on Sunday, Sept. 30, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
“Thanks to a partnership with Playa Vista, those who want to head to the beach or visit Marina del Rey can enjoy the ride without worries of high gasoline prices, parking fees, or traffic headaches,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe said.
Shuttle stops are conveniently located near seven Marina del Rey WaterBus boarding locations. There will be a pause in service between 3:15 and 4:15 p.m.
Later this year, the beach shuttle will debut a new look, with recently acquired buses powered by clean-burning compressed natural gas. The buses are Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible, and include space for bicycles.
