Los Angeles police shot and wounded a suspect who allegedly threatened them with a knife during a traffic stop in Del Rey early Oct. 11, police said.

The incident occurred at about 2:15 a.m. near a Jack in the Box restaurant at Washington Place and Centinela Avenue in Del Rey, where police conducted a traffic stop on suspicion of driving under the influence, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle allegedly became combative and threatened the officers with a knife, at which point one of the officers shot the suspect in the abdomen, police said.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, police said. No other injuries were reported.

A second suspect in the vehicle was taken into custody.
