Kirk Alexander, who teaches math and filmmaking at Venice High School, was honored Saturday, June 11th, by the Fulfillment Fund, a mentoring organization that provides college scholarships to Los Angeles Unified School District students.
Alexander was honored as an “Outstanding Teacher/Counselor” at the 19th Annual Achievement Awards held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
He received $2,000 and was selected over nearly 100 other nominees.
Venice High School student Jessica Martinez nominated Alexander by writing an essay about him for the Fulfillment Fund.
“I can honestly say that Mr. Alexander helped me find my passion for math,” Martinez wrote. “I believe that everyone has a passion for something, but 70 percent of the people don’t know what their passion is because they are not as lucky as me to find someone who believed in them.
“Mr. Alexander makes himself available to anyone who needs his help, including students who are not in his classes.”
