Team Santa Monica swimmer Jonathan Lait of El Segundo captured his first Junior Olympic victory in the 100-yard breaststroke earlier this month at the Belmont Olympic Plaza in Long Beach.
The event, hosted by Southern California Swimming and the Golden West Swim Club, featured teams from cities throughout Southern California.
In addition to his victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, Lait, 17, finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Teammate Andy Lau, 14, a student at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, was also a key contributor by placing second in the 400-yard individual medley, and third in the 200-yard individual medley. He also posted top eight finishes in three other events.
The performances of Lait, Lau, and the rest of the 35-swimmer contingent, propelled Team Santa Monica to an eighth place finish in the overall results of the event.
Team Santa Monica is a nonprofit swimming club that serves Santa Monica and its surrounding areas. The team trains daily at the Santa Monica Swim Center and Culver City Plunge.
