Team Santa Monica swimmer Jasmine Margetts, a 12 year old from Torrance, won five gold medals at the 2009 Blue Junior Olympics hosted by Canyons Aquatic Club at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center earlier this month.

Margetts started off the five-day competition winning the 100-meter backstroke and butterfly events. She later added the 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter individual medley and 50-meter backstroke events to her collection of victories.

Her results closely resembled her 2008 performance, when she won four individual events. Margetts will now prepare to compete as part of the Southern California Swimming all-star contingent in the North American Challenge Cup competition, which started Wednesday, August 5th in La Mirada. The meet will feature teams from Canada, Mexico and Northern California.

Team Santa Monica is a nonprofit swimming club that serves Santa Monica and its surrounding areas. The team trains daily at the Santa Monica Swim Center and Culver City Plunge.
