Team Santa Monica swimmer Andi Murez was among the elite swimmers who competed at the 2007 ConocoPhillips Short Course Nationals hosted by United States Swimming at Georgia Tech Recreation Center in Atlanta Saturday and Sunday, December 1st and 2nd.
The pool hosted the swimming events at the 1996 Olympic Games.
Murez, 15, a Venice High School junior, swam the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 51.68, which is the 17th-fastest time nationally this fall for girls her age. In the 200-yard freestyle, her time of 1:51.59 was the 40th-fastest time in the country this fall for 15 year-old girls.
Murez’s performance comes on the heels of another Team Santa Monica swimmer who posted nationally-ranked times. Brendan Casey posted the 22nd-ranked time for ten-year-old boys November 16th, with a time of 5:42.15 at the Cranberry Classic in Santa Clarita.
Team Santa Monica coaches Jon Carroll and Alex Tungland said they will be looking for more national times in the coming weeks as the team is scheduled to compete in the Winter Invitational at the Commerce Aquatorium December 6th through 9th, and the Winter Age Group Championships in Cerritos December 14th through 16th.
Team Santa Monica, a nonprofit swimming club that serves Santa Monica and its surrounding areas, trains daily at the Santa Monica Swim Center.
