The Santa Monica Public Library and its Teen Advisory Council are inviting teens ages 12 to 18 to submit original art and writing to the library’s first ever Teen Art and Creative Writing Contest by Friday, May 1st.
The theme of the contest, “My Life as a Teen,” encourages young people to express different aspects of their lives through art or writing. Teens can submit work in the following categories — digital art, photography, painting, drawing, short story or prose, and poetry.
A judging panel comprised of teenagers and professionals will choose one winner per category. Winners will receive a $50 gift certificate. Writing pieces will be published in a magazine and art pieces will be exhibited at the library in June.
Entry forms and guidelines for the contest are available at www.smplteens.org/library/teen_contest.html/. Mail or drop off submissions to: Santa Monica Main Library, Youth Reference Desk, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401. The deadline for submission is Friday, May 1st.
