The First Friday jazz series at Joe’s Restaurant in Venice will continue May 4 with The Dexter Story Trio, performing a tribute to Miles Davis.

The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Joe’s, 1023 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.

Jazz drummer Story first performed at Joe’s at the Feb. 1 installment playing drums next to Trevor Ware on bass. They were supporting John Beasley and Dwight Trible for their “Duality” album release event.

Story and Ware are returning with Sam Barsh on keyboards as The Dexter Story Trio, and they will be playing songs by Davis from the 1950s through the 90s.

Named after legendary saxophonist Dexter Gordon, Story has performed and recorded with a diverse array of bands and artists. He has worked in nearly every facet of the music industry, from marketing, promotions and artist development to tour coordinator and artist management.

Story is preparing to release his debut album, Seasons, this summer.

He and Ware will perform at Joe’s on the heels of a European tour with Dwight Trible’s Cosmic Band and Build An Ark.

The artists will play three or four sets. There is no cover charge for the music, but dinner orders are required for table seating. A complimentary glass of wine will be provided for 6-7 p.m. dinner reservations.

Reservations, (310) 399-5811.
