Expansion of activities at the Fisherman’s Village, rapidly becoming one of the better known tourist attractions in Los Angeles, continued with the addition of a floating aquarium, an 88 -foot schooner “The Perseus” for a nautical museum, and the placing into operation of a new 65-foot tour boat, the “Marina Belle.”
A new jet powered fireboat for the Marina station of the County Fire Department arrived in February with a top speed of 30 knots; the vessel has the capability of pumping 3,500 gallons of water a minute.
Small Craft Harbor Commission Vice President Robert L. Lynch received congratulations in February on placing first in the Puerta Vallarta race. His 83-foot M-class cutter, “Sirius II” is a familiar vessel in southern California ocean racing circles. The race is sponsored by the Del Rey Yacht Club, and 26 top flight ocean racers entered the initial running of what promises to become a classic sailing event.
