Five new retail shops are scheduled to open with The Market on Santa Monica Place’s rooftop dining deck Friday, May 20.

The new purveyors at the Santa Monica shopping center are Beachy Cream, Benedetta Fresh Aromatherapeutics, Groundwork Coffee Company, L’ Artisan du Chocolat and Magical Blooms.

Beachy Cream is well-known from farmers markets and the streets of Malibu, bringing “retro-chic” organic ice cream sandwiches to The Market. Made in small batches with locally sourced, sustainable and organic ingredients, these all-natural delights come in various flavors such as Key Lime Cowabunga, Strawberry Surfer Girl and Ginger Wipe Out.

Benedetta, founded in 1996, is a fully botanical, farm-sourced, skin care company. Each holistic formula is made in small batches focusing on certified organic and biodynamic ingredients, many California grown.

Groundwork Coffee Company already serves coffee and tea devotees in various other local locations. Founded by Richard Karno in 1990, this coffee company is sustainable and roasts 100 percent organic, fairly traded coffee. Groundwork offers custom blends, including Banda Geisha, Black Gold, Bitches Brew and Angel City. The products are Kosher, as well, a company spokesman notes.

Magical Blooms will open its second location for local floral designer and entrepreneur Jenny Barker. The store features one-of-a-kind arrangements, floral design classes and more, she says.

L’ Artisan du Chocolat features artisan, gourmet chocolates, handmade in Los Angeles by the company’s French chocolatier, using only natural ingredients with no preservatives.

Other retail shops that recently joined The Market include Primi Al Mercato, Venokado, N’Ice Cream, Röckenwagner Bakery, The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories, and The Curious Palate.

“The Market will be filled with wonderful food and entertaining experiences – from watching your just-ordered baked soufflé and a pasta maker shaping tonight’s dinner, to taking a fun class on modern flower arranging,” said Michael Guerin, assistant vice president of leasing for Macerich, the parent company of Santa Monica Place.
