The Skirball Cultural Center and The YWCA Santa Monica/ Westside will honor three local women for their extraordinary work on behalf of women and girls at the YWCA Focus Awards Saturday, May 2nd.
The Focus Awards event highlights the contributions that the YWCA and honorees make in the worldwide community of women.
The three women being recognized this year are Amelia Saltsman, author of the award-winning Santa Monica Farmer’s Market Cookbook, Abby Sher, founder of the Santa Monica Museum of Art at the Edgemar site, and Kim Michel, founder of Century City-based firm Michel Financial Group.
The ceremony at the Skirball Cultural Center will feature an honoree reception, auction, dinner and entertainment. Sarah Purcell, former co-host of “AM Los Angeles” with Regis Philbin, will be the mistress of ceremonies.
Former YWCA executive director Sally Young will be at the event to launch the “Sally Young Empowerment Fund.” Event tickets are $225.
For over 75 years, the YWCA Santa Monica /Westside has provided community service programs to women and children. Proceeds from the awards event go directly to these programs, including a Housing and Education program for young women leaving the foster care system; Encore, a free exercise and peer support program for women with cancer; and Girls In Action, a leadership, empowerment and technology program for girls in middle school.
