The Eighth Annual Toy Drive and Animal Shelter Drive, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Triangle Park, Waterview Street and Trask Avenue (near Pershing Drive) in Playa del Rey, will collect toys for the upcoming holidays for the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and accept items for local animal shelters to help animals in their care.
“This will be the fourth year that Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl will appear at the celebration as neighbors and friends gather to bring donations to the park and stay to visit with neighbors, enjoy a cup of coffee and snacks, and launch the holidays with good cheer and giving,” organizer and local resident Pam Stacey said.
Community members are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys or books of any value in their original packaging to the park, and the items will be delivered to the Childrens Hospital. No stuffed animals will be accepted because children at the hospital may have allergies from compromised immune systems or allergies to fabrics.
Local resident Donna Manders, who is organizing the animal shelter portion of the event, asks community members to bring supplies for animals, such as leashes, blankets, comforters, towels, dog and/or cat food (cans and unopened/sealed kibble), metal bowls, dog sweaters or other items. All donations will be delivered to the Los Angeles city and county Animal Shelters and distributed to individual shelters based on need.
The event is co-sponsored by Jane St. John of RE/MAX Beach Cities Realtors and Flowers by Felicia. Additional support for the event is provided by Bristol Farms-Westchester, Starbucks-Marina del Rey and Beach Pizza.
The event will be held rain or shine, but in case of rain, please bring donations to garage in alley behind 7528 Whitlock Ave. at the intersection of Whitlock and Waterview Street.
