Those who come to Burton Chace Park to see the 43rd Annual Marina del Rey Boat Parade next month will be able to hear a running commentary of the boat parade.
Lisa Osborn, a radio newscaster on several radio stations, including KFI-AM, and Mickey Laszlo, television host and voice actor, will team up for a second year to provide commentary to parade watchers at Burton Chace Park.
This year the Marina Holiday Boat Parade will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 10th, in the Marina del Rey main channel.
A preview boat parade is planned between 7 and 9 p.m. the previous evening, Friday, December 9th.
“Every year, this event gets better and better,” Osborn said. She is a local resident who has been the park announcer for the boat parade the past two boat parades.
“The boats are decorated so beautifully and to see the sparkling lights on the water is awesome,” she said. “A lot of people get together with friends and families for the Boat Parade to celebrate the season California-style. It’s a fun evening for people of all ages.”
The two broadcasters once worked together as traffic reporters for several Los Angeles area radio stations.
Laszlo was also the TV traffic reporter on the Emmy-Award winning morning news team on KABC Eyewitness News.
“Lisa and I had a great time with the fun crowd that came out last year,” said Laszlo. “I look forward to seeing the creative decorations on the boats this year.”
In addition to KFI-AM, Osborn spends time at two Ventura radio stations, as program director and morning host on the KKZZ-AM program, Music with Style and mid-day host on the KFSH-FM program, The Octopus.
Riders of Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus may recognize Lisa as the friendly voice that greets riders and announces stops.
“Over the years, my voice has turned up in some unique places,” says Osborn, whose company BroadcastEdge provides voice-over services for a variety of applications, including corporate phone systems, talking brochures and Web sites, and transit lines.
Laszlo is now the host of The Play List music show on Cox Communications Cable Network and is featured on The Pet Place, an animal rescue show on KDOC-TV.
In her spare time, she donates her services to charity events, which have helped raise money for cancer and Alzheimer patients and animal rescue groups.
Boat parade information and entry forms are available at the boat parade Web site; the Marina del Rey Visitors Center at Burton Chace Park; or the Boat Parade administrative office, at (310) 670-7130.
