California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) investigators and Santa Monica police have arrested two women in connection with narcotics transactions at the Joker Bar where they work on Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica.
Following a two-month-long investigation involving illegal narcotics transactions at the Joker Bar, ABC investigators and members of the Santa Monica police Vice/Narcotics Unit arrested bartender Theresa Beatty, 39, after serving a search warrant at the bar April 7th, Sgt. Jay Trisler said. Beatty was booked in Santa Monica Jail on possession of a controlled substance for sale, he said.
Officers allegedly recovered some cocaine from the scene, he said. A second female bartender at the establishment was arrested the following day and also booked on possession of a controlled substance, Trisler said.
ABC and the Santa Monica Police Department initiated the investigation due to heightened concern about the location based on observations of officers and complaints by area residents. ABC investigators went undercover multiple times during the past two months to develop the information that led to the arrests, Sgt. Dave Hunscke said.
During the investigation, undercover investigators were allegedly able to make purchases of illegal drugs from the bar employees and patrons on several different occasions, Hunscke said.
ABC will file an accusation against the licensed business which carries a penalty that could range from a fine to a revocation of the license. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated, police said.
This operation was a combined effort between ABC and the Santa Monica Police Department.
