The Santa Monica College Art Department and Photography Department each won first-place awards in the categories of Best Demonstration and Best Exhibit at the Pico Artists at Work event Sunday, October 15th, in Santa Monica, which was sponsored by the Pico Improvement Organization.

In addition, Santa Monica College student Billy Williams won a first-place award for his sculpture, exhibited at Virginia Avenue Park in Santa Monica as part of the event.

The art department captured its prize for a glass-blowing demonstration and the photography department won for its current faculty exhibit in the Santa Monica College Photo Gallery.

Pico Artists at Work drew an estimated 500 to 600 people. Artists, schools and businesses from Santa Monica’s 34th Street on the west to Seventh Street on the east opened their doors to exhibit work and demonstrate art-making skills.

The event also included music and family arts activities at Virginia Avenue Park and other locations along Pico Boulevard.

An awards ceremony for Pico Artists at Work winners will be held at noon Friday, October 27th, at Lares Restaurant, 2909 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. Admission is free but guests pay for lunch.
