The Lloyd W. Taber Marina del Rey Library recently received two new sails that are on display in the Greg and Mimi Wenger Community Room.

The sails, which function as display spaces, are in the shape of a small gaff mainsail replica and a jib headsail.

The gaff main is lashed to a mast set into a decorative mast step that is built onto a “weighted rolling boat cart,” and the jib is hung at the entrance of the Friends of the Library to call attention to their sales of new and recycled books.

Friends of the Marina del Rey Library president Virginia Harms and librarian Winona Phillabaum, along with Willie Hjorth, owner of Mare Co. Sails of Marina del Rey, created the sail concepts.

Several longtime Marina boat professionals were also involved in assisting with the marine tableau, including Stan Harris of Yacht Rigging Associates; Chris West, a custom fabricator; sailmakers Robert Broussard and Roman Mendoza; and John Hjorth of Mare Co.
