New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, two of the candidates vying for the Democratic Party nomination for President, are scheduled to speak at the California Democratic Council Convention (CDC) at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Richardson will open the California Democratic Council Convention Friday, August 10th, and Kucinich is scheduled to appear Saturday, August 11th. The convention is being held through Sunday, August 12th.

‘We are excited that several Democratic candidates were able to include an address to the CDC in their busy schedules,” said Chris Stampolis, president of the California Democratic Council. “Obviously Governor Richardson and Congressman Kucinich recognize the importance of reaching out to Democratic Party activists as a key component of their strategies to win in California.”

Stampolis also noted that all candidates were invited.

Many federal, local and statewide Democratic Party leaders and elected officials will be addressing the delegates, who represent Democratic grass-roots organizations throughout the State of California.

Most of their addresses will be delivered at one of the five banquet sessions that are part of the convention. The banquet Friday, August 10th, will end with a poolside performance of the “Phoenix Projekt PanAsian Fire Troop,” an act that’s part carnival, part dance.

The banquet Saturday, August 11th, will conclude with a performance of songs from Michael Butler’s new production of “HAiR – the Musical” (opening at the Met Theater in Hollywood) by the show’s cast.

In addition to presentations by elected officials and candidates, there will be grass-roots training, policy discussions and fellowship, according to the California Democratic Council.

The convention will feature more than 24 workshops to help Democratic Clubs and county committees become more effective. The California Democratic Council will also be taking votes on resolutions and officer elections.

Registration opens at 1 p.m. Friday, August 10th. First committees and workshops begin at 2 p.m. A complete convention schedule can be found at www

Tickets for the convention will be available at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, 6101 W. Century Blvd., Westchester, starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 10th. A ticket for all other convention activities, including banquet sessions, can be purchased for $210.

Individual meals can be purchased separately.
