Two men are in critical but stable condition at a local hospital after being shot in the Pico Neighborhood of Santa Monica early Sunday, August 12th, police said.

Police were called at about 12:10 a.m. to the area of 20th Street and Pico Boulevard regarding a report of shots fired, Santa Monica police Lt. Alex Padilla said.

When officers arrived they did not find any victims, but several minutes later, St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica notified police that two people with gunshot wounds had been taken to the emergency room, Padilla said.

The two victims, in their early to mid-30s, were in a vehicle in the parking lot of Eddie’s Liquor store at 20th Street and Pico Boulevard when they were fired upon, Padilla said.

Police said they are looking for suspects in connection with the shooting but did not have a description. The incident appears to be gang-related and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Santa Monica Police Department Robbery-Homicide Unit at (310) 458-8451.
