A van that was stolen in Whittier with an infant inside was recovered in Mar Vista by Los Angeles police Friday, September 21st.
The baby, a one-year old named Angel Irizarry, was sleeping inside his father’s 1993 white Dodge van outside their residence in Whittier with the engine running, when it was stolen at approximately 8 a.m., according to Whittier police officer Diana Salazar.
An Amber Alert was immediately issued for the baby and the van, and approximately three hours later, officers from the Pacific Division of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spotted the parked van and the baby at Regent Street and Globe Avenue in the Mar Vista area. At Argonaut press time, the suspect remained at large.
An Amber Alert is issued as a notification to the general public, by various media outlets in Canada and in the United States when police confirm that a child has been abducted.
The California Highway Patrol also assisted in the search for the child.
