The Venice High School cheer squad has been selected by Bowl Games of America as featured performers in the Big Bay Balloon Parade and halftime show during the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl in San Diego on December 30th.
The Holiday Bowl pits a Pac-10 football team against a Big 12 team in Qualcomm Stadium. Over 60,000 fans filled the stands in last year’s Holiday Bowl, while millions more watched the game on national television.
Under the direction of Jamie Miller, the Venice High School cheer squad will join other performing groups from around the country to participate in the halftime show. Performing groups are selected for their outstanding musical performance and strength of community support.
The mass band and field performers will assemble together in San Diego for three days of intense rehearsal under the direction of nationally acclaimed band directors and choreographers. Game day will begin with bands and other performing groups marching in what is considered the largest big balloon parade in the nation, according to Bowl Games of America.
The cheer squad will receive plaques, trophies, commemorative patches, and a souvenir DVD, and will be honored with an evening of dinner, dancing and awards at SeaWorld.
Venice High cheer squad representatives say the team is in a rebuilding phase and is looking for community support. Anyone wishing to help can contact the cheer squad at firstname.lastname@example.org/.
