The Rev. Thomas C. Ziegert of the Venice United Methodist Church has been named the new senior minister at the Ocean Beach United Methodist Church in the San Diego area.

Ziegert served in the same capacity at Venice United Methodist Church for the past eight years, and a celebration of his work at the church and throughout the Venice community will be held at 10:30 a.m., following the worship service Sunday, July 12th.

During Ziegert’s time in Venice, he obtained approval from the Venice United Methodist’s trustees to transform and rename the church campus’ two-story, multi-classroom and auditorium building the Venice Peace and Justice Center.

The center currently provides training, administrative and performance space for a variety of cultural and social research organizations.

Other highlights of Ziegert’s tenure include support for organizing tenants displaced by the now stalled Lincoln Place development and enlarging food pantry services for the homeless population.

Donations to support the continuing community and youth ministries of the Venice United Methodist Church are welcomed.

An RSVP is requested to attend the celebration.

Mrs. Garcia’s Catering will provide full meal and beverages for a $10 donation.

The church is at 1020 Victoria Ave., Venice. The public is invited to attend.
