Patrick James Ryan, a Venice resident and musician who worked to help the homeless, died Aug. 26. He was 55.

Born on June 12, 1955 in Chicago, Illionis, Ryan lived in Venice for 10 years and was loved by all who knew him, his family said.

Ryan was someone who cared for and helped feed the homeless, his family noted.

He had graduated with high honors from technology school and worked as a marine engine mechanic for many years.

Ryan had a passion for playing drums and performed with many popular bands throughout his life, his family said.

He is survived by his mother Margaret Ryan of San Bernardino; brother Richard Ryan of Temecula; and sisters, Gail Alberts of Highland, Linda Wills of San Bernardino and Susan Miller of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Ryan, Sr. in 2008 and brother Thomas M. Ryan in 2009.

A memorial service is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Venice Recreation Center. All are invited to share any memories of Patrick and there will be a brown bag lunch provided to those in need.
