A 23-year-old Venice man who was a former Youth of the Year at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Oakwood Neighborhood Monday, June 4, police said.

Oscar Duncan was walking in the 600 block of Santa Clara Avenue, west of the Oakwood Recreation Center in Venice, shortly before 10:30 p.m. when a white vehicle approached, Los Angeles police said.

The vehicle stopped in the roadway near Duncan when one of the occupants shot him as he stood in the roadway, police said.

When Los Angeles Police Department Pacific division officers arrived at the scene, they found Duncan lying on the roadway with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said.

Detectives are currently investigating a possible motive in the fatal shooting. There is currently no suspect description available.

As a teenager, Duncan was a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice for 10 years when he was honored as the club’s Youth of the Year in 2006. At the time of his award acceptance, Duncan aspired to major in business management and music in college.
