Volunteers are being sought for the 20th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday, September 18th.

Coastal Cleanup Day activities will be coordinated in Los Angeles County by Heal the Bay, a Santa Monica-based nonprofit environmental group concerned with improving coastal waters.

More than 10,000 are expected to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day activities in Los Angeles County.

Since 1990, Heal the Bay has coordinated the event in the county, removing more than 300 tons of trash throughout the years.

There will be more than 50 beach and inland sites where cleanup activities will be held, including three sites north of Santa Monica Pier — at Lifeguard Towers 4, 8 and 1550 — and three sites south of the pier — at Lifeguard Towers 18, 22 and 27.

Other sites where cleanup activities are planned include all beaches in the county.

Volunteers can register and find cleanup sites closest to them at (800) HEAL BAY, ext. 122, and on the Web site:
