Dr. Michael Richman is not your typical heart surgeon. Sure, he has performed nearly 1,000 cardiac bypass procedures during his career, but he now focuses his entire time on cholesterol management in an attempt to keep people off the operating room table.

Richman, a Santa Monica resident, received his medical degree from Georgetown University and is also WebMD’s cholesterol medical expert. He has been practicing medicine since October 1999, is a board certified surgeon and cardiothoracic surgeon with a specialty focus in complex lipid management.

He is also a diplomate in the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and also in the American College of Chest Physicians.

Last year, he opened his own clinic in Los Angeles called The Center for Cholesterol Management, offering advanced cholesterol testing, which he considers to be the “gold standard” of diagnostic testing.

Richman’s clinic is hosting a free seminar from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 14th, called “Looking Beyond HDL and LDL; Advanced Cholesterol Testing and Heart Disease,” to bring the latest cholesterol medical information to locals.

The seminar will be held in the second floor Community Room of the Santa Monica YMCA, 1332 Sixth St., Santa Monica.

It will focus on the latest technology, testing and medical research for cholesterol (lipid) management, including advanced cholesterol testing. After the lecture, attendees will be able to ask questions.
