Marina del Rey resident and co-founder of The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles Harriet Benjamin and her daughters, Ann and Lauren Benjamin, are among this year’s honorees of the Wellness Community-West Los Angeles’ ninth annual “Tribute to the Human Spirit” Awards Dinner.
The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer and their loved ones, is scheduled to hold the awards dinner Thursday, May 31st, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Other honorees at the event are two-time Emmy nominated producer Laura Ziskin, actor Steve Guttenberg and two cancer survivors, attorney Barbara Federman and doctor Jerry Federman.
The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
The organization, located on Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, relies entirely on community support in order to continue providing psychological and emotional support to cancer patients and their families at no cost to the participant, according to the organization.
Dr. Harold Benjamin and his wife Harriet co-founded The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles in 1982.
Harriet Benjamin is a breast cancer survivor of more than 28 years and was the inspiration and Harold’s motivation for opening the Wellness Community.
Harold Benjamin died in 2004, but Harriet Benjamin and their daughters Ann and Lauren remain actively involved in helping people impacted by cancer improve the quality of their lives, organization officials said.
Harriet volunteers and leads weekly Welcome to Wellness sessions.
