Two men were killed in two separate drive-by shooting incidents in the Westchester and Del Rey areas Sunday, October 14th, police said.
In the first incident a Hawthorne man had left a party at about 4 a.m. in the 5400 block of 99th Place, in the Manchester Square area of Westchester, and was on the sidewalk when a silver Mustang pulled up.
The vehicle drove by and shots were fired at the man, police said. The victim, identified by police as Devon Curry, 18, was struck in the upper torso and he collapsed at the scene, said Detective Mike DePasquale of the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division.
Curry was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police currently do not have any suspect description.
Later that day at about 4:40 p.m., a 33-year-old man was in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was stopped at a red light at Lincoln Boulevard and Maxella Avenue in Del Rey.
Another vehicle, described as a white van, pulled up next to the man’s vehicle and the driver of the van fired multiple shots into the passenger side of the other vehicle, striking the man in the torso, police said. The van was last seen driving southbound on Lincoln.
The victim, identified by police as Armando Mariscal, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to DePasquale.
The driver of the white van is described only as a Hispanic man wearing a white T-shirt, said DePasquale.
Both shooting incidents appear to be gang-related, police said.
