Westchester High School is moving forward in implementing an autonomy-based school management model as a member of the Loyola Marymount University’s Family of Schools. A vote on a “model of governance” will be held at the high school’s social hall on Thursday, November 20th, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 22nd, at 10 a.m.

The Westchester High School Transition Team, which consists of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) iDesign Division, Westchester High administrators, teachers, parents, community members and representatives from the LMU Family of Schools have put together three options that incorporate ideas from other school districts that have implemented successful forms of self-governance.

The next critical step to implementing a self-governance model for Westchester High School is to have parents and community members select a governance model that the soon-to-be formed councils will use to govern Westchester High School.

Those interested may come and hear more about the proposed governance models, ask questions, share their thoughts and vote on the model they believe will best serve Westchester High School and the surrounding community, said a spokesman.
