Students at Westchester Lutheran School helped raise over $4,000 in cash and collect 640 pairs of shoes for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti at a recent Soles4Soles drive.
The shoe drive received 100 percent participation from students at the middle school, said a physical education teacher who organized the event as part of Sports Chalet’s Soles4Souls.
The International Red Cross has estimated that approximately three million people were affected by the 7.0-magnitude quake near the capital of Port-au-Prince that has claimed an estimated 170,000 lives.
Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the public and the warehouses of footwear companies. The charity distributes these shoes free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria.
