Westchester Lutheran Middle Schoolís cheer squad won first place in the Junior High division at the California Cheer and Dance Spirit Club International State Championship at the Gibson Theater in Universal City March 7th.
The cheer squad earned a championship banner and trophy for the school and each member of the squad received a T-shirt, state champion medal and state champion sweatshirt. The team dedicated the win to Alex Silah, a Westchester Lutheran student who was reported missing by his mother after visiting with his father last year and an original member of the cheer team.
The squad plans to compete in the Jamfest Nationals in Las Vegas Saturday and Sunday, March 28th and 29th.
Westchester Lutheran Church, which opened in 1944, is currently led by pastor Fred Masted and is home to Westchester Lutheran School, which serves kindergarten through eighth grades.
