Memorial services for the daughter and son-in-law of state Assemblywoman Karen Bass are scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 11th, in the Sacred Heart Chapel at Loyola Marymount University (LMU).
Emilia Wright, 23, an LMU student who was the only child of Bass, was killed with her husband, Michael Wright, also 23, in a car accident on the San Diego Freeway near La Tijera Boulevard in Westchester Sunday, October 29th.
As it traveled south on the freeway, the vehicle they were riding in struck the concrete support beam for the La Tijera Boulevard overpass at approximately 4:35 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The couple, who met while attending LMU, were married January 5th, officials said.
Michael, who came to LMU from Indiana, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing in August, and Emilia was completing her studies at LMU and planned to graduate in December, LMU officials said.
Bass, the only African American woman in the State Legislature, represents the Assembly 47th District and serves as the majority whip.
Friends and family, along with the general public, are welcome to attend the ceremony for the couple.
