The Westchester United under-14 boys soccer team of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is headed to the sectional tournament next month after recently winning the Area 1D Championship.

In addition to capturing first place in Area 1D, which is comprised of local communities such as Westchester, Playa del Rey and Marina del Rey, the Westchester United team won the area sportsmanship award, coaches said.

Team members include Anthony Martin, James Evans, Kieran Rock, Russell Ivy, Tyler Comstock, Isaiah Dunn, Jackson Theuer, Stephen Luxford, Daniel Lopez, Devonte Singleton, Cameron Laine, Chris Smith and Jacob Barrow. The coaches are Michael Laine and Chris Robbins.

“Playing in AYSO Region 7, Westchester United won all 14 games during the regular season, scoring 89 goals with only 13 goals surrendered. The team then won the regional championship game 6-0, putting the total goals scored at 95 in 15 games,” Robbins said.

Westchester United then advanced to Area 1D play, in which the team won all three games in pool play, with 11 goals scored and only three goals surrendered. In the semi-final game, the team defeated the Hawthorne B team 3-0, and Westchester then defeated the North Redondo team 3-1 in the finals. Westchester finished area play with a total of 17 goals compared to only four surrendered.

Coaches praised the team’s achievements in winning all of its 20 games with a total of 112 goals scored.

The team will compete in the sectional tournament in Riverside Saturday and Sunday, February 28th and March 1st.
