Westport Height Elementary School in Westchester will hold parent and community elections for the English Learners Advisory Council, Compensatory Education Advisory Council and School Site Council Wednesday, October 11th.

The elections will be held at 8:15 a.m. (English Learners), 5 p.m. (School Site) and 6 p.m. (Compensatory Education) in the school auditorium, 6011 W. 79th St., Westchester.

The English Learners Advisory Council is a bilingual council that advises the School Site Council on matters concerning students participating in English Language Development programs. These students are learning English as a second language.

The School Site Council oversees and provides guidance on the school budget and instructional programs for all students.

The Compensatory Education Advisory Council is a Title I Council.

It advises the School Site Council on matters concerning intervention programs for students eligible to receive Title I services. These students are at-risk students who need extra assistance in reading, writing and math.

Principal Karen Long said active parent participation helps the school implement its programs.
