The Westside Neighborhood School girls middle school varsity volleyball team won its fifth Pacific Basin League Championship with a resounding victory, 25-12, 25-10, over Archer School For Girls last month.
The Del Rey school’s team of 12 girls is coached by Chip Schulte, who said the players became a cohesive unit over the course of the season.
In its first playoff match against Willows school, WNS prevailed 25-11, 25-9. Playing in the semi-finals at home on the following day against Crossroads School, the WNS varsity girls were victorious with the same scores of 25-11, 25-9. The WNS team captured three playoff wins without dropping a single game.
With its championship victory, Westside Neighborhood School earned its fifth championship trophy for girls volleyball in the past eight years.
Many of the girls who have played for WNS have gone on to play for quality area high school volleyball programs including Marymount, Windward, Vistamar, Bishop Montgomery, and Serra high schools, and some have extended their careers at the collegiate level.
