A 56-year-old Santa Monica woman was killed Wednesday, May 27th, after her vehicle ran over her as she attempted to fix the engine starter under the front of the car, police said.
Police were called at 12:04 p.m. to the intersection of 11th and Pearl Streets in Santa Monica, where officers assisted the woman who was trapped under her vehicle, investigator Chris Dawson said.
The woman was reportedly having mechanical problems with her vehicle’s starter and she crawled under the front of the car to try to fix the problem by touching the starter solenoid with a screwdriver, Dawson said.
As the woman was underneath, the vehicle, which was left in drive with the emergency brake off, rolled forward and onto the woman, Dawson said. She was dragged a short distance and run over by the right front wheel, he said.
Fire department paramedics treated the woman at the scene and transported her to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, Dawson said.
