A 51-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon, February 5th when her car rode off the side of the Marina Freeway in Del Rey in rainy conditions, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman, identified by the county coroner as Rosa Miranda of Torrance, was driving her Isuzu Rodeo eastbound on the freeway at about 3:30 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and went over the side east of Culver Boulevard, CHP spokesman Travis Ruiz said.

The vehicle traveled down the embankment and crashed into a tree. Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Ruiz said the exact cause of the accident is under investigation but it appears that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet weather conditions at the time.
