A 37-year-old woman was found dead after an apparent accidental fire broke out in a single-family home in Mar Vista early Monday, September 8th, fire officials said.
The woman, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was found by firefighters during a search of the home, Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesman Ron Myers said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, a county coroner spokesman said.
No other injuries were reported.
Five LAFD companies, including 25 firefighters, two rescue ambulances and three arson units were called at 5:25 a.m. to a residence in the 3400 block of Colonial Avenue, west of Centinela Avenue in Mar Vista, where a fire had been reported, Myers said.
When firefighters arrived, they saw “heavy” fire coming from the home.
Firefighters attacked the blaze from the inside of the home and contained the fire within 20 minutes, Myers said.
Fire officials said the accidental blaze may have been sparked by candles. The single-family home sustained “significant damage” in the fire but the total cost of damage has not yet been determined, Myers said.
