A female associate of a Los Angeles gang has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the 2008 killing of a Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) employee.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bob Bowers additionally ordered defendant Jessica Ortega, 32, to pay $1,300 in restitution to the family of slain airport employee Samantha Padilla and $7,500 to the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board, county district attorney spokeswoman Shiara Davila said.
Deputy District Attorney Mark Inaba of the Hardcore Gang Division said Ortega pleaded no contest to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted gang and gun allegations on July 15.
Padilla was fatally shot when she exited the northbound 110 freeway at Slauson Avenue just after midnight on April 10, 2008. The victim, who was on her way home from work, was stopped at a traffic signal when she was killed.
