A woman remains in stable condition after she was shot in the lower back during a robbery in the parking area of a Marina del Rey apartment complex Thursday night, July 21, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Detectives are continuing to search for an unidentified male suspect.

The woman was near her car in the carport area of the Bay Club apartments, 13935 Tahiti Way, in Marina del Rey at about 9:55 p.m., when she was approached by a man armed with a gun, said Sgt. Carlos Veramendi of the Sheriff’s Marina del Rey Station.

Fearing she was about to be robbed, the woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, gave the suspect her purse and ran away, Veramendi said.

The suspect then allegedly fired three shots, striking the woman once in her lower back, he said. The victim was found in the pool area of the complex and was transported to a local hospital where she underwent surgery.

Detectives have not yet interviewed the victim regarding the shooting and currently do not have any description of the suspect, Veramendi said.

The suspect was seen driving a white colored vehicle, possibly a Mercedes Benz, with no license plates, he said. The victim’s purse was not recovered.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station at (310) 482-6000.
