The Morgan-Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica will present director Woody Allen’s comedy, Play It Again, Sam, beginning Saturday, Jan. 21 through Feb. 12.

Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre, 2627 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.

Play It Again, Sam follows Allan Felix, a film critic and recently-deserted husband, who lives in a lonely apartment and talks to his imaginary idol, Humphrey Bogart. When his friends Dick and Linda try to set him up with women, Allan’s attempts to be suave and sexy lead to a series of comic disasters – until Allan starts to fall for Linda, his best friend’s wife.

Nominated for three Tony Awards, the comedy ran for 453 performances on Broadway. Allen’s film version was released in 1972. When Morgan-Wixson audiences were polled as to what play they would most like to see, they overwhelmingly chose Play It Again, Sam, a theatre spokesperson noted.

Director Paul Guay will make his directorial debut at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre.

The creative team includes Thomas A. Brown (set designer), Robert Davis (lighting designer), David Feinman (music), Garrett Rockey (sound designer), Frankie Foster (costumes), and Mary Beth Sciarabba (producer).
