The inaugural yoga musical, Wee Yogis Play, will premiere with two performances at the Magicopolis Theatre in Santa Monica, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14 at 5 p.m.
The musical is presented by Jocelyn Kay Levy, also known as KayLee Smiles, and her organization, “Wee Yogis Play,” a non-profit that uses yoga to improve the well being of children. In Wee Yogis Play, 25 adult actors, musicians, singers and yogis will entertain and inspire children, while delivering fun and hilarity for people of all ages, event organizers say.
Written and directed by Levy, the musical is based off the original kids yoga music album Wee Yogis Play, which was created by KayLee Smiles in 2010 and gained popularity as a favorite throughout Mommy and Me yoga classes, child development classes and daycares. It is designed to teach children the life-changing art of yoga through an entertaining sequence of songs, and teach poses through music, games and fun, says Levy.
“We put the musical ( up on Indiegogo, which is a crowd-funding site, and we truly hope to raise enough money to impact children in the Los Angeles, area,” says Levy.
“Yoga, movement and music have been proven to help treat depression, anxiety, and other social, mental and physical disorders. This is especially effective in the treatment of children.”
The Magicopolis Theatre is at 1418 14th St., Santa Monica.
Tickets are $20 for adults, or $10 for kids.
