A 28-year-old youth pastor at a Venice church has been charged with sexual molestation for allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship with a teenage girl.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Demetrius Allen Aug. 5 with 10 counts of lewd act on a child, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of contacting a minor for sexual offense n all felonies, district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said.
Allen pleaded not guilty to the charges during an arraignment at San Fernando Superior Court Aug. 5, a court spokesperson said. Prosecutors asked for bail to be set at $1 million, said Deputy District Attorney Carolyn McNary.
Allen, a youth pastor at the First Baptist Church in the Oakwood neighborhood of Venice, is accused of having a yearlong affair with the young girl, who is a member of the church, Robison said.
The sexual relationship allegedly began in March 2010, when the girl was 14 years old, and continued through May of this year, Robison said.
The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation of the suspected affair.
