The YWCA Santa Monica/ Westside will honor four Westside women for their contributions to the community at the 29th annual Women of the Year Dinner Thursday, May 11th, at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.

The theme of this year’s dinner is “Women Doing and Women Achieving” and tickets are $175 per person.

A cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. with the dinner and program beginning at 7:15 p.m.

This year’s honorees are:

n Flora Gil Krisiloff, co-founder of the Brentwood Community Council and Westside senior field deputy for County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky;

n Mary Setterholm, founder of the Surf Academy, the official surf school of the City of Santa Monica, and the nonprofit LA Surf Bus that offers free ocean safety and surf lessons to inner-city children;

n Dr. Janet Salomonson, a plastic surgeon and medical director at Saint John’s Health Center, who volunteers to repair cleft palates for children in the U.S., Central America and South America; and

n Patricia “Patti” T. Tanenbaum, founding chairwoman of the Beverly Hills School District Community Service Program, which teaches the value of community service to students in all grades.

The annual dinner serves as a key source of funding for the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside, which operates solely on contributions from individuals, foundations, service clubs and corporations.

Proceeds from the dinner fund five programs:

n Housing and Education Program for young women emancipated from foster care;

n Learning is Fun Everlasting (LIFE), an evening academic assistance program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade;

n Encore, an exercise and support program for women with breast cancer;

n Child Development Center, which provides on-site and year-round childcare; and

n Girls in Action, a leadership program for girls attending John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica.
